SUMMER OUTING TO KELMSCOTT MANOR

Wednesday 10 June 2026

You are cordially invited to join us for the Wynkyn de Worde Society Summer Outing as we visit Kelmscott Manor, the Cotswolds home of William Morris and his family, a place he called ‘heaven on earth’.

We will board a hired omnibus in central Oxford that will convey us all to Kelmscott, arriving before noon, where will take a guided tour of this beautiful Manor house, then a modest luncheon.

As well as illuminating why this home became an inspiration for Morris and his family, the tour will include the iconic collection of artwork and artefacts owned and designed by Morris. From furniture to Fafnir, from tapestries to texts – ‘If a chap can’t compose an epic poem while he’s weaving tapestry… he’ll never do any good at all’.

You may also perambulate the adjoining grounds and buildings to view the home of Mouse, the horse (not pony) that Morris brought back from Iceland, together with Fafnir the Nordic dragon, that still resides in the garden today.

Depending upon the weather and once our interest in Kelmscott and Morris is sated, the omnibus will then return us to central Oxford later in the afternoon.

Please feel free to bring along a guest or guests but please note numbers are limited to 34. The bookings are on a first come basis, so please, do book promptly.

As we are required to confirm numbers and pay well in advance, the deadline for bookings is noon Friday 8 May.
