Monstrously good charity visit

The Charitable Trust recently donated £500 to the Ministry of Stories, the children’s writing charity co-founded by Wynkyn de Worde Society member Alistair Hall.

At the end of May, members of the Charitable Trust, along with Alistair, visited the Ministry to see how the Society’s donation will help, and to participate in a writing workshop with some of the young writers.

The Society’s donation was match-funded as part of the Big Give campaign, doubling it to £1,000. This will help the Ministry to publish writing by young people who attend the free community writing labs, as well as through the school programmes. As an example, have a look at Anthology of the Alps, written by young people from Shoreditch Park Primary School.

The Ministry is hidden behind a fantastical shop, Hoxton Street Monster Supplies, which has been selling bespoke products for monsters of all kinds since 1818, including Tinned Fear, Thickest Human Snot, Spare Neck Bolts, and bars of Impacted Earwax (a monster delicacy). You can read all about it here. Members of the Charitable Trust took the opportunity at the end of their visit to buy some monstrous treats for their nearest and dearest.

Thank you again to all the Society members who have given to the Charitable Trust in many ways, whether that’s through donating books to our regular book raffles, buying tickets for those raffles, selling personal work, or through other gifts.
