MEMBERSHIP
The Wynkyn de Worde Society brings together professionals on whose combined efforts the quality of published matter depends. We are a jovial bunch who like a chat, good food, a drink and to keep up to date with the culture and development of our industry.
The Society provides a forum for the regular interchange of ideas and information, and mentoring on the creation of print, including production, design, editing, publishing, printing, type design, art and technology. It is a group in which friendly advice and mentorship from those at the peak of their crafts sit comfortably alongside convivial catch-ups.
In today’s tech-driven environment, we venture to sustain and develop human creative endeavour in the worlds of printing and publishing. Within a professional landscape that increasingly skews towards remote, freelance, or project-based work, the Society provides an in-person network and an informal yet invaluable space to question, learn, and share ideas.
Our members are generous fonts of knowledge, support and optimism for their fellow kindred spirits, and hail from a wide selection of distinct but allied disciplines. Applying for membership
Candidates for membership will have attended a recent event as the guest of their intended proposer or seconder, who should make every effort at the event to introduce the candidate to at least one member of the Committee.
The proposer should ask the Membership Secretary for a proposal form, which asks for the following information:
The name, address, company and position of the candidate.
The candidate’s personal and business connections to print and the graphic arts.
An assurance that the candidate is aware of the aims and objectives of the Society and is able to attend as many meetings as possible.
The length of time the proposer has known the candidate.
The name of the seconder.
Renewing membership
Members who have left the Society by resignation may apply directly to the Membership Secretary for reinstatement. The letter must be countersigned by two current members proposing and seconding the re-admission.
Applications for new or renewed membership are brought before the Committee at its following bimonthly meeting. If no vacancies exist within the Society’s membership at that time, the candidate may be placed on a waiting list.
Lapsed members who have been removed from membership for failure to pay subscriptions are re-admitted at the Committee’s discretion. All past subscriptions since the date of removal must be paid before membership recommences. Applications should be made direct to the Membership Secretary. Rule 5 of the Constitution and Rules applies (the Society’s constitution is available from the Membership Secretary).
Overseas members
To increase facilities for contacts and exchange of information beyond the UK, membership of the Society has been extended to a number of individuals from other countries.
Privacy statement
The Wynkyn de Worde Society respects the privacy of its members. Personal data – such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and interests – are collected from members when they join. This data is kept securely by the Membership Secretary and used solely to inform members of the numerous social events throughout the year. Personal data is not shared with third parties nor used for marketing or any commercial purpose.
Personal data is retained during the period of membership. It is subsequently deleted from the active list of members, although will still be present in the Society’s Archive and the historical published Membership Directories. If members have any questions or concerns about their personal data being held by the Society, they should consult the Membership Secretary.
