A fantastic year for the Charitable Trust
It’s been a wonderful year of giving and receiving for the Society’s Charitable Trust.
Across the year, members’ donations have helped a huge number of students to participate in talks, and to work with other designers. Here are a few examples:
Orange Beak Evening
10 tickets were donated to students to attend the Orange Beak Evening talk and Q&A by illustrator Violeta Lópiz.
LBCA
Nathan Priest was helped with a residency award at London Centre for Book Arts (run by member Simon Goode).
Paekakariki Press
Carys Wright, a student from UCL, was helped to become a new apprentice at letterpress studio Paekakariki Press (run by ex-chair Matt McKenzie).
Meeting Room talk
Meeting Room hosts creative talks and get-togethers in Brighton, curated by previous Society speakers Matt Baxter and Dom Bailey from Baxter & Bailey. The Trust donated tickets to the Meeting Room talk between Alex Swatridge (creative director at design studio Dutch Scot), and lettering artist (and Society member) Seb Lester.
The Typographic Circle
The Trust continued its support for students attending Typographic Circle events, with a new feature, five "out of town" tickets per event.
Letterexchange
A whopping 160 student tickets were donated to students to attend Letterexchange talks across the year.
St Bride Foundation
We supported 81 students to attend design talks at St Bride Foundation.
In order to keep providing such fantastic support to students, Society members once again raised lots of money for the Trust.
The Members’ Table, held during the November lunch and selling items made by members of the Society, raised a fantastic £825. The Trust would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed items for sale and to acknowledge the generosity of our membership in supporting this event and helping to raise such an amazing total.
(And may I say thanks on behalf of the Society to Catherine Dixon for pulling it all together so brilliantly!)

Society members also raised £425 with the book raffle at the Christmas party at The Deck (thanks again to everyone who donated books!)
Combined with the £650 raised at the book raffle at the Summer Luncheon, that’s close to £2,000 raised at events this year. Fantastic work.
